Indian ace batter Cheteshwar Pujara has decided to extend his stint with Sussex for one more year. He will now be with the club for at least until the end of the 2023 season for the Club.

In his first stint for Sussex in the County Championship 2022 season, Pujara slammed 1094 runs in 13 innings, laced with five centuries, and a top score of 231. In this process, he became the first Sussex player after 118 years to hit three double tons in a single season.

The Royal London One Day Cup 2022 witnessed him scoring 624 runs in nine innings at an average of 89.14, including three centuries and two fifties. He created history by registering the highest List A score of 174 by any Sussex player, which was broken by Ali Orr (206) five days later.

Furthermore, Pujara led the team in the absence of Tom Haines, and took the team to the semi-finals.

Speaking on re-signing a contract, Pujara expressed his delight to be playing for Sussex and wants to contribute to success in the next domestic season.

Here is what Pujara said:

“I am glad to be back with Sussex for the 2023 season. I thoroughly enjoyed my last stint with the club last season, both on and off the field and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s growth and success in the coming year.”
