'We don't want to kind of ease ourselves' - Bavuma ahead of Zimbabwean challenge

As South Africa prepare for their game number one of the 2022 T20 World Cup, their skipper Temba Bavuma stated there is no scope for complacency in such a fast-paced tournament.

The Proteas will collide with Zimbabwe, who topped their group in the first round, tomorrow at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

With South Africa in a group comprising the likes of India and Pakistan, Bavuma emphasised starting off well by implementing their plans on the ground.

Here's what Bavuma said

"We have Zimbabwe as our opening game. There, everything that we've spoken about in our meetings and our preparation, we'll be looking to execute them as well as we can,"

"We obviously want to start on a positive note. We don't want to kind of ease ourselves into the tournament. There really is no time to do that. Tomorrow will really be an opportunity for us to execute our skills and our plans accordingly."

Marred with an elbow injury and health issues, the 32-year-old was recently forced to miss a few series for South Africa. His lack of form, too, does not make him a very compelling opener in T20Is. However, the captain himself believes he is over that phase.

"I was out of action the last week or so in India with sickness. I came here to Australia still kind of recovering. But I've gotten over that."

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will be flying high on confidence as the Chevrons entered the Super 12s with a five-wicket win over Scotland.
