In a remarkable turn of events, India captain Rohit Sharma has become the most-capped Indian player in T20 World Cups. The veteran opener overtook the legendary former captain MS Dhoni to achieve this milestone.

Today, India kickstarted their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. This marked Rohit Sharma's 34th appearance in the showpiece event. With this, he surpassed MS Dhoni's tally of 33 matches, becoming the most-capped Indian player in the World Cups.

After debuting against England in Durban, Rohit gradually established himself as a mainstay of the Indian batting lineup. This is his eighth T20 World Cup. In the previous seven editions, the talismanic opener has amassed 851 runs. However, he had a forgettable outing in the World Cup opener, being dismissed by Haris Rauf for only four runs in the fourth over.

Regarding the match, Pakistan posted a competitive total of 159 runs on the board, courtesy of two fighting half-centuries from Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed. As of writing, India are in deep trouble, reeling at 17 for two in 4.2 overs.
