Aaron Finch hints at additional responsibility for David Warner ahead of WC opener

In an unfortunate turn of events, Australia recently lost keeper-batter Josh Inglis to injuries days before their World Cup opener against New Zealand. As a result, the defending champions have a solitary specialist in Matthew Wade to don the gloves throughout the showpiece event.

Therefore, the question arises: who will replace Wade behind the stumps if he gets injured at any stage of the tournament? Skipper Aaron Finch came up with an interesting response when he encountered the query.

Finch revealed that his opening partner David Warner is the frontrunner in the race to be Wade's successor in case the swashbuckling finisher develops an injury. Also, he didn't rule out the possibility of somebody like himself or Mitchell Starc shouldering the keeping duties.

Here's what Finch stated on the matter

"Probably, David Warner I would think, he did a little bit of practice yesterday. Myself, maybe captaining and keeping, when you haven't done it before, it's a little bit tougher. Maybe Mitchell Starc can bowl a few upfront, take the gloves in the middle and then bowl again in the end. But probably David, that's a risk we are prepared to take at the moment."

Notably, Warner has little experience in keeping on the international level. However, as it seems, he might have to rediscover the wicketkeeper inside himself for the sake of the Australian team.
