The last group-stage encounter of the ongoing T20 World Cup saw Zimbabwe edge past Scotland by five wickets. Zimbabwe entered the Super 12 in style with this thumping victory.

After electing to bat first, Scotland suffered early setbacks, as Michael Jones and Matthew Cross were removed inside five overs. Skipper Richie Berrington, too, made his way back to the dugout, managing a sloth-paced 15-ball 13.

However, George Munsey and Calum MacLeod held the fort for Scotland. The duo stitched a vital partnership of 34 runs, before Munsey departed for a 51-ball 54. His gritty knock involved seven boundaries and was pivotal in stretching Scotland to 133. MacLeod contributed 25, while Michael Leask came up with a handy cameo of 12 runs.

Experienced speedsters Tendai Chatara and Richard Ngarava scalped two wickets apiece, while Blessing Muzarabani and Sikandar Raza equally shared the remaining two wickets.

Ervine-Raza fireworks seize the day for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe began the chase in a horrible manner, losing Regis Chakabva and Wesley Madhevere in the first ten balls. Their ship sank further with the dismissal of Sean Williams, who registered yet another failure with the bat.

However, the veteran duo of Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace, adding 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Skipper Ervine led from the front with a well-compiled 54-ball 58, while Raza hammered three fours and two sixes for his majestic 40.

Although Scotland made a comeback by dismissing both these batters, it was too late as Milton Shumba and Ryan Burl scored the remaining runs with nine balls to spare.
