Australian talisman and former skipper Meg Lanning's indefinite hiatus from the game surprised many fans and teammates, as the Aussie skipper was coming off a great year with consecutively winning the World Cup followed by the Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Lanning's hiatus forced Cricket Australia to name in different stand-by until the skipper returned. Recently appointed Australian vice-skipper Alyssa Healy spoke about the former skipper and said she was unsure if Lanning would return to the side as an active player.
"I am positive she (Lanning) will be back around Australian cricket and in what role I am not 100 per cent certain," Healy was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. "That is a decision for Meg and one that me in particular I am really supportive of her making.
"Whatever role I play in the summer I am happy with. If she comes back and says this is my team and I want to play and captain, it's a great thing for Australian cricket. But if it's the flip-side of that and there is a conversation about me having to take over then that is really exciting for me.
It will be interesting to see if Lanning decides to make a return to international cricket, they player recently decided to extend her hiatus missing both the recently concluded Women's Hundred and the ongoing Women's Big Bash League.
