In what could be a massive blow to Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup campaign, experienced speedster Dushmantha Chameera could be ruled out of the showpiece event owing to a calf injury.

Chameera sustained the injury during Sri Lanka's second Group stage encounter against the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. Chameera, who dismantled UAE's batting order by registering a spectacular three-for, pulled out of his run-up during the last over of his spell and eventually hobbled off the field.

Despite being an extremely talented bowler, Chameera's career has been marred by injuries. Earlier, the 30-year-old missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to a similar injury but was included in the World Cup squad after passing the fitness test.

Chameera is the second Sri Lankan bowler to be ruled out of the mega event due to injury. Earlier, promising seamer Dilshan Madushanka was sidelined from the squad after developing a quadricep injury.

Also, as per some reports, Danushka Gunathilaka and Pramod Madushan have been suffering from hamstring problems. Such unfortunate injuries to their key players have emerged as a big headache for the Lankan think tank.
