Aaron Finch thinks Australia were not up to the mark in terms of getting a fine flourish in the slog overs, which cost them a game against India.

The Finch-led side were handed a narrow defeat by six runs in the warmup match against India on Monday.

Batting first, India were off to a terrific start with Kl Rahul slamming 57 of 33 balls. Then, Suryakumar Yadav continued his rich form to contribute 50 off 33, which put Men in Blue in a sweet spot.

In the end, Dinesh Karthik scored 20 off 14, as India finished on a total of 186. Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with four wickets.

In response, Australian openers Mitchell Marsh (35) and Aaron Finch provided a boost to the Aussies in the powerplay overs.

Finch played a terrific knock of 76 off 54, while Maxwell was a helping hand with a contribution of 23. However, the lower middle-order and tail-enders could not accelerate for them.

With 11 runs needed off six balls, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc to take three wickets and effect a run-out as well.

In the post-match presentation, Finch expressed his delight to get runs under his belt. Furthermore, the 35-year-old lavished praise on pacer Richardson and spin duo Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa.

"We haven't capitalised in the chase in the last 3-4 overs," Finch said after the match.

"The bowling was good, was happy with the bat too and get a few runs. Richardson was fantastic, we have great depth in the fast bowling department. Zampa and Agar were great too.

Australia will now be next seen in action in the T20 World Cup 2022 opener against New Zealand on October 22 at Sydney.
