Mohammed Shami's last over heroics did India a huge favour as they defeated Australia by 6 runs in their first warm-up match. Earlier, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav helped India post 186 on the board.

India posts a decent total

Being asked to bat first on a Gabba wicket, KL Rahul went berserk tonking bowlers all over the park to take India's score to 69 inside the powerplay with skipper Rohit Sharma at the other end on the score of 13. Rahul brought up his fifty inside of just 27 deliveries smashing 3 sixes and 6 fours in his knock of 57.

Suryakumar Yadav joined the party with a fine half-century off 33 balls to take India's score to 186 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs with Dinesh Karthik playing a cameo of 20 from 14 deliveries. Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with 4/30, along with Mitchell Starc who took 1/20 in his 3 overs.

Shami proves his excellence

In pursuit of 187, Australia had a magnificent start to their innings where they got to 64 inside the powerplay for the loss of just one wicket. It was skipper Aaron Finch who blistered a 54-ball 76 hitting seven fours and three sixes. Bhuvneshwar helped the Men in Blue to make a comeback claiming excellent figures of 2/20 while bowling two overs.

Steve Smith's form remained cloudy as he could only get 11 from 12 balls, getting cleaned up by Yuzvendra Chahal. Glenn Maxwell played a cameo of 23 runs using 16 deliveries. However, after the departure of their captain and Maxwell, wickets kept tumbling and Australia were down to 176/6 after the end of 19 overs.

When 11 were required off the final over, Rohit handed the over to returnee Mohammed Shami who bowled exceptionally well to give away just four runs and took 3 wickets excluding a runout. The hosts were left stranded on 180, losing the match by just six runs.
