'It's another cliche': Warner sends out a message regarding Australia captaincy ban

Australian batter David Warner has now opened up about Cricket Australia potentially overturning his captaincy ban.

The 35-year-old has been tipped to succeed Aaron Finch as Australia's ODI captain, but he is still serving a lifetime captaincy ban imposed on him, on the back of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal.

A number of his colleagues have come forward in recent months, backing the explosive opener to take over the captaincy role and his conduct on and off the pitch seems to have forced CA to consider lifting the ban.

Speaking about the possibility of leading the Aussies, Warner mentioned that he is looking to contribute to the side to the best of his ability and it doesn't matter whether he is the designated captain of the side or not.

Furthermore, he added that if CA are willing to have a chat with him about the ban, he is happy to do so.

It remains to be seen whether the Australian board is willing to insert a special clause in the code of ethics, which will allow the New South Wales cricketer to don the leadership role in the 50-overs format ahead of the World Cup next year.

“It’s another cliche, it is what it is. It is what it is. At the end of the day, I’ve just got to accept what decision is handed down. There is talk that I might be able to have a chat to the integrity unit. If that’s possible, I’m happy to sit down with them and chew the fat a little bit and see where we’re at. If it does get overturned, then we have to go from there,” said Warner via Cricket Times.

“For me, I’m a leader in this team, no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a c or a vc next to your name. You’ve got to put your best foot forward and lead by example. If it (ODI captaincy) ever presented itself, it would be a privilege. For me, it’s about focusing on the next game and what I have to do for the team. At this point in time, that’s what I have to do."
