Australian captain Aaron Finch has backed all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to have a strong showing in the T20 World Cup 2022, despite his bad form.

In the recent few series, Maxwell has endured a slump in form, which hasn't helped the team flourish in the middle-overs. In the three-match T20I series against India, the 34-year-old could score only seven runs.

The West Indies series witnessed Maxwell scoring only a solitary run in two innings, while he garnered only 16 runs in two appearances in the England series. Moreover, he could not pick any wicket in the last three series, which has certainly put pressure on him.

However, Finch thinks Maxwell will have a successful stint in the World Cup, with impressive performances in both departments. The 35-year-old added that the all-rounder has been training hard off the field, and has the ability to turn back the clock very soon.

"He'll have a huge tournament. His contribution, not just with the bat but with the ball ... and in the field is second to none in the world," Finch said.

"I'm not worried about his batting at all ... one ball can change everything for a player like Maxy and we see how he's training.

With youngster Tim David delivering terrific performances in his limited outings, Maxwell will have to produce a fightback to save his place in Australia's Playing XI. The calibre of a player like Steve Smith is warming the benches, and can be drafted into the lineup, if Maxwell's horror show continues in the subsequent matches.

Australia will face India in their only warmup game against India on Monday (October 17). The defending champions will kickoff their T20 WC campaign against New Zealand on October 22. in Sydney.
