One; yes, we are only one day away from witnessing the biggest T20 carnival, as the T20 World Cup is set to get underway on Sunday. Sixteen top-class teams will compete really hard in Australia to get their hands on the mercurial trophy.

As the World Cup is knocking at the doors, let's find out five records that could be broken during the tournament.

5. Most centuries in T20 World Cups

With two hundreds in 31 innings, the T20 icon Chris Gayle holds the record for the most number of centuries in T20 World Cup history. However, the English openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales have recorded one hundred each and will be playing in the upcoming World Cup Down Under.

So, if one of them slams two more tons, he will overtake Gayle to record the most number of centuries in the tournament's history. This milestone is indeed a bit tough to attain, but as cricket is a game of uncertainty, we shouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of its occurrence.

4. Most four-fors in T20 World Cups

Notably, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal and veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan are the only two bowlers with three four-wicket hauls in T20 World Cups. As Ajmal is not playing anymore, Shakib has a golden opportunity to surpass him by recording a single four-for in this World Cup.

Also, Shakib's teammate Mustafizur Rahman has two four-fors to his name. So, there will be a cut-throat competition between these two to register the most number of four-wicket hauls in the tournament's history.

3. Total dismissals by a South African keeper in T20 World Cups

Iconic gloveman Mark Boucher is currently the most successful keeper from South Africa, with 16 dismissals in as many games in T20 World Cup history. However, he is closely followed by his successor Quinton de Kock, who has already registered 15 dismissals in 13 matches behind the stumps.

So, if De Kock executes two more successful dismissals, which we feel he will, he will become the most successful South African keeper in the history of the mega event.

2. Most catches in T20 World Cups

As it stands, legendary former South African player AB de Villiers tops the chart with 23 catches in 30 World Cup appearances. Experienced New Zealand opener Martin Guptill currently occupies the second spot with 19 grabs to his name. So, if Guptill manages five more catches, he will surpass De Villiers' tally for the most number of catches in the tournament's history.

1. Total runs in T20 World Cups

Legendary former Sri Lankan batter Mahela Jayawardene has been the most successful batter in the T20 world Cup history. The stylish right-handed batter has amassed 1016 runs in 31 matches at a healthy average of 39.07 and a decent strike rate of 134.74. However, his record is threatened by three greats of this generation, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and David Warner.

While Kohli (845 runs) and Rohit (847 runs) need 171 and 169 runs, Warner (762 runs) requires 254 runs to dethrone Jayawardene. If these stalwarts perform as per their potential, they will undoubtedly overtake the Sri Lankan legend's tally.
