Former West Indies Test cricketer Bruce Pairaudeau passes away

Former West Indies cricketer Bruce Pairaudeau has died at the age of 91. He played 13 Tests for his country between the years 1953 and 1957.

Pairaudeau was born in British Guiana, now Guyana, on April 13, 1931.

Pairaudeau was one of the few bespectacled players to have ever graced the game at the International level. He made his first-class debut in the 1946-47 season for British Guiana. The right-handed batter was rewarded with a national cap for his country in 1953, with a Test match against India at Port of Spain.

The cricketer played the last of his 13 Tests against England at Leeds in July 1957.

After his last Test appearance, the cricketer emigrated to New Zealand and played for the Northern Districts for eight seasons between 1958 and 1966.

Pairaudeau scored three Test fifties and a ton during his career, and scored his runs at an average of 21.61. In first-class cricket overall, the Guyana-born player held a much superior record.

He piled up 4,930 runs across 89 matches, at an average of 32.01. The former cricketer registered 11 hundreds and 25 half-centuries throughout his first-class journey.
