Thilan Walallawita extends his contract with Middlesex

Middlesex left-arm spinner Thilan Walallawita has penned a new deal with the county, signing a contract extension that will make him available for the club at least till the 2024 season.

After securing a British citizenship, he is set to register as a local player. Making his debut for Middlesex in 2020, he featured in 34 matches, claiming 26 wickets.

It was in 2020 that Middlesex offered him a professional contract. Prior to it, he was a part of the club's age group sides and also joined the Middlesex Academy.

Informing about the development, Middlesex issued a release that quoted the 24-year-old as saying:

"Having been at Middlesex since a youngster it has always been my dream to play professionally for the Club and I am delighted to extend my contract for a further two years. Everyone at the Club has been extremely supportive of me and the journey I have been on to qualify as a local cricketer, and I am really looking forward to being able to repay the faith they have shown in me.

"It is an honour to play for such a club, especially at Lord’s, and I am excited to now be able to focus on cementing my place in the side in all formats and to contributing to our success moving forward. Having secured promotion into Division One of the Championship, the squad are all really excited about what the future holds, and we can’t wait for next season and the chance to prove ourselves against the best sides in the country."

Walallawita has appeared in all formats for Middlesex. He debuted in first-class and T20 cricket in 2020, while his maiden List-A outing came a year later.
