Who is Roger Binny: The next BCCI President

The fight for the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is heating up, with the decision set to be taken at the upcoming AGM on October 18, thus ending current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly's stay as the head honcho. One of the front-runners is former Indian player Roger Binny, who is set to succeed Dada, with hardly any opposition to his position.

The 67-year-old made his international debut in 1979 and established himself as the second-best all-rounder to Kapil Dev. Binny was the tournament's leading wicket-taker in the 1983 World Cup, claiming 18 wickets, which helped India lift the trophy for the first time.

Apart from being a swing bowler, Binny was a swift fielder and managed to hit some hefty blows with the bat as well. He repeated his 1983 feat and was the leading wicket-taker in the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship, which India won.

Overall, he played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India, picking up 124 wickets and amassing 1,459 runs across formats.

The Bangalore-born played 136 First-Class and 113 List-A matches, claiming 327 wickets and scoring 7,617 runs, including 14 hundred and 38 fifties across formats.

Binny began his coaching stint with India Under-19, guiding them to the ICC U19 World Cup Trophy in 2000. He also coached the Bengal Ranji Team in 2007.

His first appointment as an administrator came in 2012 when he was appointed selector on the men's national selection committee.

He is currently serving as chairman of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

His son Stuart Binny also played for India and Karnataka, before announcing his retirement last year.
