The 2022 T20 World Cup journey for England will begin with their match against Afghanistan at Perth. Ahead of their first encounter in the mega event let us take a look at the English squad.

The Pillars

Batting

Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan- Both Buttler and Malan will be seen at the top of the English batting order. The prime responsibility of the two batters will be to give their team a stable yet dynamic start. But the onus of a positive start will be more on Buttler than on Malan.

All-Rounders

Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes- Liam Livingstone can do it all, he can give the team a strong and powerful finish and also bowl some handy overs with the ball.

The other all-rounder in the English team is Ben Stokes. He has the capability of changing the complexion of any game single-handedly. 

Bowlers

Mark Wood and Adil Rashid- Mark Wood will turn out to be an asset for England in the Australian conditions. Wood being a hit the deck bowler might turn out to be the bowler who troubles the opposition the most during the tournament.

On the other hand the duty of Adil Rashid will be to keep the oppositions scoreboard under check and also pick up wickets during the middle overs.

Alex Hales will be seen representing England in T20Is in the international arena after three years. Hales have always had the reputation of being an aggressive batter from the very beginning of an innings. His recent form in the Hundred tournament had been pretty decent. The most important thing is that he is approaching batting very positively. 

Hales’ absence from the international arena for the last few areas makes him an unexplored area for the other teams in the competition. Hence, he might well turn out to be the surprise package for England. 

Concern

The biggest concern for England seems to be death bowling. In the squad there is only one designated death over specialist bowler, Chris Jordan. But Jordan’s form in the death overs has not been upto the mark and hence it looks like a big concern to be addressed by the English team during the tournament.

Challenges

Game time for Mark Wood and Chris Woakes in 2022

The biggest challenge for the England team will be the injury concerns and the lack of game time of some of the main players in the squad. Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have been out of the main action for quite some time and it would be a challenge for the team management to balance their workload. 

Prediction

There are a few issues within the English team and they will have to grind hard to cover up the woes. With the current team chemistry, a run to the semi finals will be a surprise from England.
