Legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn has urged Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah's replacement to raise their game at the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The Rohit Sharma-led unit suffered a bodyblow earlier this month when star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the marquee event due to a recurring back injury.

India are yet to name Bumrah's replacement. Whoever it is, Steyn believes that he needs to elevate his performances to the next level to plug the massive hole that the formers unavailability has left.

Speaking on Star Sports' show 'Cricket Live', Dale Steyn said:

"It's a tough one. So, whoever takes his place, I hope that would be the case for them. Whoever gets selected, You probably want them to raise their game by a small percentage because of the hole that they are filling. Somebody like Bumrah, it's so difficult to fill his place. He is such a world class player. India will miss him tremendously in this World Cup."

Who will replace Jasprit Bumrah in India's T20 World Cup squad?

India have Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar as standbys in addition to the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup.

While Shami didn't feature in the home T20I and ODI leg due to Covid, Chahar was ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa due to back injury.

Shami is set to travel to Australia in a few days, but back here in India, Mohammed Siraj has beefed up his case with brilliant performances in the powerplay as well as the death in the white-ball series against the Proteas.

The deadline to make final changes to the 15-member squad is 15th October.
