New Zealand are considered one of the favourites to win the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 beginning October 16. However, like several teams, the Black Caps, too, are faced with multiple injuries within their squad.

Currently playing in the T20 Tri-nation series at home, involving Pakistan and Bangladesh, all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and fast bowler Adam Milne are racing against time to get fit for the marquee event.

Kane Williamson’s side will be up against hosts Australia, Afghanistan, England, and two qualifying teams (from the first round) in the Super 12 Group 1 and commence their tourney on October 22 against the defending champions.

Mitchell, who fractured his hand while training, according to NDTV Sports confirmed that the Rajasthan Royals player would travel to Australia with his injury.

The 31-year-old has played 12 Tests, 10 ODIs and 35 T20Is for the Kiwis.

"Obviously it's a massive relief, but it's really nice to get the nod and give this hand a chance to be ready,"

Coach Gary Stead expects the Hamlinton-born to be fit for tie against Afghanistan, which takes place on October 22.
