England selection is out of my control: Keaton Jennings as he awaits recall

Lancashire finished the County Championship Division One campaign in second place, and one man who played a brilliant role for them this season was Keaton Jennings. The opener scored 1,233 runs and finished with an average of 72.52, which made him the leading run scorer in the division. His performances helped Lancashire win seven matches from 14 at the County Championship.

The performances are likely to earn him a recall in the England team in place of Kent’s Zak Crawley, who struggled to score runs all through summer. Jennings has played 17 matches for England, scoring over 700 runs at an average of over 25.

England are due to tour Pakistan for three Tests before Christmas and Jennings will be hoping to find his name in the squad. He has impressed on the subcontinent in the past, where he has scored a century each against India in Mumbai and against Sri Lanka in Galle.

What Jennings said on plans

“This year was one of those years you'll look back on in retirement and realise how special it was. I did things this year I've never done before,

"I turned 30 this summer and I think age and maturity is a big factor. Between 28 and 35 is when you hit your peak as a batter - a lot of guys have scored a lot of runs in that period, it's the best time of a batter's life,"

Jennings also said that playing for England once again is definitely on his mind, but there’s not much he can do to find a place for himself in the team.

“I'd be naive to say (England) hasn't crossed my mind, it would be fantastic if I did tour, but I can't do any more or any less to persuade them now. England selection is amazing, but it's something that's out of my control.”
