One of the finest all-rounders in the English domestic circuit, Gareth Berg has extended his contract with Northamptonshire Cricket Club for one more year.

Berg made his senior domestic debut in 2008 for Middlesex. Three years later, his all-around prowess helped the team to earn a promotion to Division One. Afterwards, the 41-year-old played for Hampshire.

At the end of the 2019 season, Berg signed a contract with Northamptonshire, which then paved way for his international return to the Italy team. So far, he has featured in 10 T20Is and contributed with six wickets and 115 runs.

In six appearances for the Northants in the County Championship 2022, Berg garnered 207 runs and scalped 13 wickets. His efforts assisted the team to finish in sixth place and maintain a place in Division One for next year.

Following a contract extension, Berg reckoned he wants to lead a turnaround for Northants in terms of position in the points table.

“I’m looking forward to taking on the challenge again next year,” said Berg.

“I’ve had many years in the first division and love that we as a club put in a good fight this year, finishing sixth was a decent effort and I’d like to help make an improvement on that position next year.”

2023 will be the 16th year of professional cricket for the talented all-rounder, who has made a huge impact in English cricket. In 148 first-class matches, Berg has amassed 5434 runs and bagged 316 wickets. He has played over 100 matches each in both white-ball formats as well.
