India's Nitin Menon has been picked to officiate as an umpire in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Menon is the only Indian on the list of 16 elite umpires comprising the likes of Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Kumara Dharmasena, and Marais Erasmus, who also officiated in the final of the 2021 edition, which the current hosts Australia won.

Erasmus, Rodney Tucker, and Aleem Dar will be officiating in their seventh ICC Men's T20 World Cup, while Langton Rusere will make his debut in the men's event, having stood in the women's 50-overs World Cup in January this year.

Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle remains the chief referee of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, with former players like Andrew Pycroft, Christopher Broad, and David Boon joining him this time.

Interestingly, former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath misses out from the list of match referees.

"In total, 16 umpires will officiate across the tournament with Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Kumara Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus having been the umpires in charge of the 2021 final which saw this year's hosts claim their first ICC Men's T20 World Cup title,"

These officials will be officiating during the first round and Super 12 stage, with selections for the semi-finals and final taking place later.
