The T20 World Cup 2022 preparations are in full flow for Australia after the three-T20I series against India. The hosts will be playing a short two-match T20 series against the West Indies in the build-up to the major ICC event this month.

The series will begin on October 5, with the first game to be played at the Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast, while the second match will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane on October 7.

Opener David Warner, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, as well as paceman Mitchell Starc all return to the Australian squad for the two-match T20I series against West Indies after missing the trip to India, where Cameron Green was the standout as Australia lost the series 2-1. Warner was rested from the series against India before a bumper workload while Marsh (ankle) and Starc (knee) return to the squad having missed the three matches with injuries.

Speaking to media on the eve of the series, T20I skipper Aaron Finch said he is delighted to have David Warner and Mitch Marsh back with the group after they missed the tour of India,

"He's great around the group, he brings experience, he brings energy, he brings class. He's in my mind Australia's best ever three-format player," said Aaron Finch on Warner's return to the side.

Marsh owns the number three position: Finch

Marsh, who missed the India tour due to an ankle injury is also making his return, speaking of his importance in the team, Finch said that 'flexible' Marsh has made the number three spot his own after enjoying success at the same position in the last year's world cup which Australia won by defeating New Zealand in the final.

"He's made that number three spot his own in T20 Cricket. The way that he played in the lead up and then through the World Cup (last year) is so important for the way that we want to play and to give us a lot of flexibility through that middle order," Finch said of Marsh.
