With the T20 World Cup 2022 fast approaching Australian skipper Aaron Finch's place in the playing eleven may come under scrutiny due to his loss of form.

Finch has been going through a lean phase for the last one year, with the top-order batter retiring from ODI cricket recently owing to poor form, and there has been talk about young all-rounder Cameron Green being prepared for the World Cup at home. Finch has managed just two T20I innings of greater than 50 since last year's ICC T20 World Cup with 307 runs in 12 games at an average of 27.91 and a strike rate of 129.54. The average of 27.91 is Finch's worst in a calendar year since making his T20I debut in 2011.

Many experts have called for Finch's snub from the World Cup squad, but former Australian all-rounder and Finch's teammate Shane Watson has backed Finch to dig himself out of his form slump and lead the team at the global tournament.

"Aaron Finch is such an incredibly important part of this Australian team being the captain," He has been given the full support of the selectors and coach as well. So for me, everyone’s got their fingers crossed that it’s all able to click for him during this T20 World Cup because, firstly, it is such an important role that he plays in the Powerplay opening the batting and, secondly, as a leader, as the captain making decisions under pressure."

Watson feels that Finch has a dual role in the side which is why he has got the backing of the selectors and the coaches.

Finch will get the opportunity to find some form during the home games against the West Indies and England before Australia kick starts their title defence against New Zealand on October 22.
