Jonny Bairstow sustained a freakish injury to his leg while playing golf with friends. The cricketer since then has successfully undergone surgery and has confirmed that he will not be playing at least until 2023.

Notably, the English batter suffered the injury at the height of his batting form. The right-hander plundered runs in heap and saw England to four successive miraculous run-chases in Tests against New Zealand and India at home.

Jonny Bairstow has a message for England team

Jonny Bairstow’s exact return to the England team is yet to be determined. However, the cricketer is set to miss the upcoming ODI series and T20 World Cup in Australia, and subsequent trips to Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa.

While speaking with the Telegraph, the senior Englishman expressed his disappointment over his prolonged absence from the game. He said:

“Naturally I am desperately disappointed. I have been quite upbeat for the last month, because it is such a freakish thing that’s happened, it’s difficult to get angry about. It’s such a freakish thing that’s occurred.”

Bairstow, who was initially named in England’s 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia, will now have to witness the action from the side-lines. The 33-year-old wished his team the best of luck for the tournament.

“I wish them the best in Pakistan and the World Cup, I am distraught not to be there, and will be watching on the TV when I can.”

Meanwhile, the Yorkshire-based cricketer has already laid out his plans for the future. Slated to return sometime in 2023, he said that his hunger is not diminished yet and he is eager to return for next year’s home Ashes, ODI World Cup in India and 2024’s T20 World Cup.
