The elegant batter Shan Masood has expressed his delight after being announced as the skipper of Yorkshire in the 2023 domestic season.

In 2022, Masood made his maiden appearance in the County Championship for Derbyshire, and returned with 1074 runs in 13 innings, at a prolific average of 82.61. He amassed a total of 1,779 runs across three formats in the season.

However, he decided to sign a two-year deal with Yorkshire, due to the presence of top English players and the rich history of the club.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire finished ninth in the County Championship Division One 2022 with only a single victory in 14 games. As a result, they were relegated to Division Two from the next season.

Their performances rightfully didn't impress head coach Ottis Gibson, and he recently announced the leadership change as a step to improving Yorks' position at the table from the next season.

In this regard, the 32-year-old reckoned the direction in which the Yorkshire team will be headed will be the key to a turn around next year. Masood added that he wants the team to be playing a popular brand of cricket, with him leading from the front.

"I want to go there and make a difference as a player and as a person and I hope that when I do, Yorkshire can be known for the kind of cricket they play. I want us to be the team that people want to come and see," said Masood.

In the end, Masood hoped to be learning from Yorkshire batting maestros, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan whenever they will be around with the team.
