India Women secured a 41-run victory over Sri Lanka Women in Match 2 of the Women's Asia Cup 2022 on Saturday (October 1) at Sylhet.

Rodrigues, Kaur propel India to a formidable total

Invited to bat first, the Women in Blue lost the wickets of their openers Shafali Verma (10)  and Smriti Mandhana (6) early. However, Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur resurrected the innings and provided stability.

The duo added 92 runs for the third wicket before Kaur (33) was dismissed by Oshadi Ranasinghe. Nevertheless, Rodrigues continued her momentum to contribute 76 off 53 balls, laced with 11 fours and a six, and India posted a total of 150 on the board.

Ranasinghe was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with three scalps.

Clinical effort from bowlers help India seal the game

Chasing 151, Sri Lanka did not get off to a good start, as skipper Chamari Athapaththu (5) and Malsha Shehani (9) made their way back the hut in quick succession.

The duo of Hasini Perera (30) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (26) tried well to put the team back on track, but their wickets opened the floodgate for India.

Dayalan Hemalatha picked three wickets, as Sri Lanka were bundled out for a total of 109 and lost by 41 runs.
