England Test opener Zak Crawley has opened up on what he has dubbed as 'worst summer' he has ever had but the Kent cricketer believes he seems to have finally 'turned a corner'.

In a season, where First-Class English batters made merry, Crawley touched new lows with every passing innings, both for England and his county, Kent.

In 13 innings across 7 Tests, the opener manages just 276 runs @ 23 apiece, which includes 7 single-digit scores. His struggles continued in the County Championship as he managed just 467 runs @ 27.47.

Here's what Zak Crawley said

"To say it's been an up and down year is generous - it's been more just down. It's been a tough year, probably the worst summer I've ever had, but I'm pleased with myself that I could bounce back.

"I always thought I would, but it just took longer than I thought. It's nice to find some rhythm and take a bit of confidence into the winter."

You learn way more from your failures: Zak Crawley

Crawley did find some form at the end of a very long summer, scoring an unbeaten 69 to help England win the series-decider against South Africa before scoring 79 in his final championship game to help Kent avoid relegation.

After a prolonged period of darkness, Zak is hopeful that the sun is finally promising to peek out. He is confident that the lessons he has learnt during this phase will hold him in good stead during the winter.

The 24-year-old signed off by claiming that the new 'style of play' that he employed during the last phase of the summer will be a regular thing now and that he will no longer resort to methods that proved fatal for him in the past.

"The new way I've been playing towards the end, being more positive, suits me more. You learn way more from your failures than from your successes. I have learned what not to do. There are plenty of things I have done this year that I am not going to do again."

Crawley's next assignment will be a three-match series in Pakistan, which will take place later in December.
