Shan Masood to lead Yorkshire in next year's County Championship

Experienced Pakistan batter Shan Masood is all set to lead Yorkshire County Cricket Club in the next year's County Championship.

Yorkshire head coach Ottis Gibson on Wednesday (September 28) revealed that Shan Masood, the county’s new overseas signing, will be appointed as the club’s new captain for the 2023 season.

In a conversation with journalists at the end of the season-ending County Championship defeat against Gloucestershire at Headingley, Gibson told the media that the Pakistan batter, arriving from Derbyshire on a two-year contract, will lead the county in all competitions next summer.

“The conversation we’ve had with Shan (Masood) is that he is going to be club captain going forward,” 

“The players know that Shan (Masood) is going to be club captain, and he will bring his own style of leadership.”

Jonny Tattersall led Yorkshire through the final two months of the summer following Steve Patterson’s surprise resignation in late July. 

Whether the Pakistani batter will lead Yorkshire into a Division One or Division Two campaign next summer is still up in the air. The 32-year-old has been selected for both the T20 World Cup team and the currently playing England series.

Masood has the experience of leading a county team. He led Derbyshire in this year's T20 Blast and that experience will come in handy when he will take charge of Yorkshire in the next season.
