Yorkshire head coach Ottis Gibson thinks the team's performances in the 2022 season have been disappointing, which has paved the way for their possible relegation to Division Two.

Currently, Yorkshire are in the eighth position with a single victory in 14 league matches. In their latest outing, they faced a loss by 18 runs to Gloucestershire. The experienced spinner Dom Bess remained unbeaten on 79 off 103 balls, but others could not produce strong performances.

With this loss, they are on the brink of retaining their place in Division One or taking the ninth position to feature in Division Two from 2023. In the Promotion and Relegation system in County Championship, the last two ranked teams from Division One get demoted to Division Two, while the top two teams from Division Two earn promotion to Division One.

Warwickshire, the ninth-placed team are currently leading by 23 runs heading into the final day of the fixture against Hampshire. They will need to win the game to bag 16 points and avoid getting demoted to Division Two.

In this regard, Gibson reckoned that Yorks have not played up to their potential in the last three weeks, and are responsible for their position in the table. He added that it was a great chance for the team to chase down 241, and end the tournament on a high.

"Very disappointing,” said Gibson. “With one day to go, we hope things go our way in Birmingham. But you ask yourself the question, ‘Do we deserve that bit of luck from Birmingham?"

Furthermore, Gibson has announced that Shan Masood, a new recruit will lead Yorkshire from the 2023 season.

In the 2022 season, Masood slammed 1074 runs in 13 innings at an average of 82.61, laced with three centuries.
