'The Indian jersey will miss you': Mithali Raj pens a message for Jhulan Goswami

Best wishes and congratulatory messages have been pouring in from all over the cricket fraternity as Jhulan Goswami has drawn the curtains over her glorious international career of over two decades. Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj is the latest to join the bandwagon as she posted a heartfelt note for the legend.

Goswami bid adieu to the game with a glorious and historic win against England in a three-match ODI series. The 39-year-old played a crucial role in India's 3-0 victory. In three matches, she picked up three wickets at an average of 27 and a stunning economy rate of three.

The Nadia-born will go down as the greatest female seamer ever produced by India. She is currently the top wicket-taker in international women's cricket history. In the career that spanned from 2002 to 2022, Goswami picked 255 ODI, 56 T20I, and 44 Test wickets in 204, 68, and 12 matches respectively.

Goswami and Mithali share a special camaraderie with each other

On Tuesday, Mithali took to her official LinkedIn handle to bid an emotional farewell to her former teammate. Mithali and Goswami were the two pillars of India's women’s cricket team for the longest time. They played together for two decades and have been a part of a lot of memorable moments including some special wins and heartbreaking defeats.

Mithali believes that Goswami’s dedication and eternal optimism towards the game of cricket is an inspiration for all the budding cricketers who wish to excel in the sport. She also hailed the pacer for an extraordinary career while wishing her the very best for the future.

In her post, Mithali wrote:

"Her sheer longevity as a fast bowler in women's cricket for the last two decades is beyond belief. We have played together since our under-19 days and Jhulan Goswami's commitment to the game and her eternal optimism are lessons for all those who wish to excel in the sport. The Indian jersey will miss you dearly. Best wishes for your future endeavours, Jhulu.”
