Mark Taylor on Cameron Green's absence from Australia's T20 WC squad

Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor has urged the national selection committee to resist the urge of including all-rounder Cameron Green in the T20I World Cup squad following the latter's recent exploits against India.

Green was one of the shining lights for Australia with the bat in the recent T20I series against India as he made the most of the opportunities he got at the top of the order in the absence of David Warner.

Green took the Indian attack to the cleaners, smashing 118 runs in 3 innings at a strike rate of 214.5, including a 19-ball half-century in the series-decider in Hyderabad.

Here's what Mark Taylor said:

"I'd be sticking with the 15 they've already selected. I think it's a bit late to change now. He grabbed the opportunity to open the batting, and full credit to him for doing that. That's the spot in T20 cricket - the further up the order you can get, the better."

''Cameron Green is showing us he is a very good all-round cricketer'': Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor further added that the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh deserve their spots for the World Cup, but admitted that Green's all-round performance will certainly put some pressure on the duo.

"There's no doubt now he is putting pressure on Marcus Stoinis, although (Stoinis) is the incumbent and Australia won (the World Cup) last year, so it's pretty hard to change that squad," he said.

"But the great news for Australia is that Cameron Green is showing us he is a very good all-round cricketer. So there is enormous pressure on all those all-rounders, which is what you want."

Green not only impressed with his batting, but he was equally brilliant with the ball in the 3rd T20I, where he gave away just 14 runs in 3 overs in a game where everyone was getting carted around.

He may not be in the T20I WC squad, but it is certain that Australia have unearthed their new opener in this format of the game for the foreseeable future.
