Meg Lanning set to miss out on WBBL

Australia captain Meg Lanning will reportedly miss the upcoming edition of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) that starts from October 13.

As reported by the The Sydney Morning Herald, Lanning, who plays for Melbourne Stars in the WBBL, will miss out on the action for the franchise in this season as she is not yet willing to bring an end to her indefinite break from professional cricket.

Further, the report adds that the 30-year-old may never return to play as her comeback depends on the interest she now holds in professional cricket.

In another possibility, there arises a scenario that she returns only as a batter, shedding off her captaincy role.

Lanning last featured in CWG 2022

The Singapore-born last competed in the gold medal match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games against India, captaining Australia in a historic win at Birmingham.

After the tournament, she took an indefinite break from cricket, citing personal reasons.

"After a busy couple of years, I've made the decision to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself,"

Just last week, Australia's head coach Shelley Nitschke provided an update on her return and said:

"Meg is having a break from the game and we are giving her that space. When the time is right we’ll have those conversations about whether she is back in December or whenever it might be."

Australia will next tour India for five T20Is in December, which will be followed by white-ball matches against Pakistan in January at home that includes three ODIs and as many T20Is.
