A controversy erupted on Day five of the Duleep Trophy 2022 final in Coimbatore on Sunday (September 25) as West Zone skipper Ajinkya Rahane asked fellow teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave the field for his unacceptable actions on the field.

The first hour of the final day of the Duleep Trophy 2022 was marred with a heated argument involving Ravi Teja and Jaiswal, which saw the latter leave the field after a stern warning from skipper Rahane.

After West Zone claimed their record-breaking 19th Duleep Trophy title by defeating South Zone by 294 runs in Coimbatore, Rahane himself came forward to explain his thought process behind that decision.

Here's what Rahane explained

"You have to follow rules and respect the game, your opponents and the umpires. That’s the way I have always played my cricket and I will continue to do so. There are certain things you must follow on the field, if you don’t, you get off the field. This is my mantra,"

"I believe in always respecting your opponents, umpires and match officials. So you have to handle certain incidents in a certain manner."

It all started in the 50th over of the fourth innings when Jaiswal was found to have a constant go at the South Zone batter Ravi Teja. Then, the two got involved in a verbal spat and West Zone captain Rahane had to step in to calm down things.

While Jaiswal kept quiet for a few overs, he was back at sledging the left-handed batter in the 57th over of the innings. The on-field umpires then took the matter into their hands and complained about his chirping to Rahane who had a chat with Jaiswal before sending him off the field. However, the young opener returned after being out for seven overs.
