Aaron Finch looking at positives despite series defeat to 'world class' India

Aaron Finch opened up on Australia's six-wicket defeat against India on Sunday (September 25) and stated that a close series against the Rohit Sharma-led side will help the visitors stay in a 'good stead'.

India have put their Asia Cup 2022 disappointments behind them as they sparked an astounding comeback against the reigning T20I World champions and handed them a series defeat by winning the final two matches of the three-match T20I series. 

Batting veteran Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav were the chief architects of the win over the mighty Aussies as the duo put on a match-winning partnership of 104 runs off just 62 balls for the third wicket before Hardik Pandya finished things off in style for the hosts.

Speaking in the post-match conference, Australia skipper reckoned that the T20I World Champions were pretty sloppy with their execution with both bat and ball against the hosts. 

“You can’t rely on containing India. At times we were a bit sloppy in our execution. At times we were sloppy with bat and ball but playing a tight series like this against a World Class side is going to keep the guys in good stead.”

Finch further showered praise on young opener Cameron Green, who has delivered some meticulous performances in the recent past, including a quick-fire 19-ball 50 against India on Sunday which helped Australia post a stiff total of 186 runs. 

“It was a really good series. We held our nerves well in the middle overs. The series Green had was big as well. We thought it was a decent total, it got a bit dewy, and we knew we had to get wickets. [On Green] He is a super young player; he has shown his class. He has not played a lot of T20. He has taken it superbly.”
