Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is racing against time to get fit for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in October. Shaheen is currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in London, which has been a controversy in itself lately.

However, according to The News, the lanky bowler will travel to Australia from England on October 15 and is in line to feature in the Men in Green's second warm-up tie against Afghanistan.

Both teams clash at the Gabba on October 19, with Pakistan's first warm-up being against England on October 17. The Babar Azam-led side meet arch-rival India on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in their tournament opener.

“Though Shaheen is scheduled to land in Australia from England on October 15, he is unlikely to figure in the first warm-up against England on October 17 at the same venue. However, in all probabilities, the left-arm pacer is set to return to competitive cricket with the warm-up against Afghanistan on October 19 ahead of the all important match against arch-rivals India at the MCG on October 23."- a source from PCB told The News.

Interestingly, while the PCB and team management are doing everything in their power to have a fit Shaheen raring to go, former Pakistan international and coach of Lahore Qalandars, Aqib Javed, has urged the 22-year-old not to play the 20-overs global event in Australia. The swing maestro has been Pakistan's mainstay with the ball, scalping 47 wickets in 40 T20I outings.
