Leicestershire v Middlesex, Leicester

Middlesex finished the opening day at Grace Road at 293 for 8 in 96 overs after being inserted in by Leicestershire skipper Callum Parkinson.

However, a patient 143-ball 64 from Stephen Eskinazi followed by a 99-run stand between John Simpson (92 off 177) and Ryan Higgins (53 off 98) ensured that Middlesex were able to put on close to 300 runs at Stumps.

Having lost the wicket of opener Edward Byrom at the score of 31, the Welsh county rode on a 117-run 2nd-wicket stand between Lloyd and Thomas Bevan (48 off 120) followed by an unbeaten 197-run partnership between the former and Billy Root (77* off 133) to end the proceedings on a high.

Potts and Raine proceeded to wipe out the first five wickets before Paul Coughlin got into the act and removed the middle-order. The trio claimed eight wickets between them.

Sussex were 80 for 6 at one stage but notable contributions from the likes of Charlie Tear (26 off 41), Faheem Ashraf (33 off 52) lifted them past the 150-run mark.
