After losing the first T20I of the seven-match series against England on Tuesday (September 20), Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said that the lack of partnerships was the reason behind his team's dismal show in Karachi.

England invited Pakistan to bat first and the Men in Green made most of the ideal batting conditions start courtesy of an 85-run partnership between skipper Babar (31) and Mohammad Rizwan (68) for the first wicket.

But once the partnership was broken in the 10th over of the innings, Pakistan couldn’t capitalize on Rizwan and captain Babar's aggressive opening stand of 85 off 57 balls before the middle-order surrendered to debutant Luke Wood in the slog overs.

Babar gave credit to the touring side for pulling things in their favour in the last ten overs of the first innings. Moreover, he wants his batters to step up to the occasion as the middle-order once again didn't go all guns blazing and failed to accelerate.

"We utilized the batting powerplay well, but we let the momentum slip after the 10th over. Credit to their bowlers, but we were not up to the mark and we didn't get the partnerships. They worked out the conditions well, but our batters should have done better," Babar Azam was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

The 27-year-old further stated that his team will look to try out different combinations before heading to Australia for the World Cup starting next month.

"We're trying different combinations before the World cup, we'll test our bench strength and then go to the tournament with our best team," added Babar.
