Australia pulled off a heist at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Men in Yellow chased the massive total of 209 runs to score a win by four wickets and take a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series.

It was a wholesome show with the bat by the Aussies and the skipper Aaron Finch is extremely pleased with the performance.

The Mohali pitch stayed true to its nature, as the bowlers had a poor day in the middle. Batting in the first innings, India managed a big score of 208 despite losing their two wickets early in the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Hardik Pandya was absolutely lethal as he played a terrific knock of 71 runs off 30 balls. KL Rahul also flaunted his class with a 35-ball 55.

However, Indian bowlers flattened on the home pitch. Though they picked wickets at regular intervals, the host had trouble putting a halt to the flow of the runs. The credit goes to Aussie batters for keeping the bowlers at the edge. The opening batter Cameron Green set the base for the other players by smacking 61 runs off 30 balls.

Steven Smith also made a good contribution of 35 runs while it was Matthew Wade who took the team home. The wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade played a quick fire knock of 45 runs off 21 balls. Australian skipper Aaron Finch hailed his team for maintaining the run rate despite the falling of wickets.

The skipper also believes that they are still in the learning phase and will try to put everything in place with the T20 World Cup just a couple of weeks away. Speaking in the post-match presentation, the captain added,

“It was a good contest, wasn't it? We had some really good partnerships, there were some good contests between the bat and ball. They came hard at us. You expect the run rate to slow down if you lose wickets. The batters tried to change the momentum of the game. That's what we play for. We still try to instill all the processes leading into the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Finch continued his lean patch with the bat. The opening batter looked good initially as he collected 23 runs after facing 13 balls. However, it was the same old story for 35-year-old as the left-arm orthodox bowler Axar Patel dismissed him.
