Cameron Green starred with the bat in Australia’s remarkable run-chase against India at Mohali. The all-rounder struck 61 off just 30 deliveries in an innings glittered with eight boundaries and four maximums.

Notably, the cricketer scored his runs as an opener alongside captain Aaron Finch. After the match, Green revealed how Finch helped him after he was asked to open the innings for the first time in his career.

Green credits Finch for calming his nerves

Earlier, the Australian all-rounder bowled three overs during the Indian innings where he conceded 46 runs. Hardik Pandya took him to cleaners in the final over, clubbing him for three successive sixes off the final three balls.

As India mounted a daunting 208-6 off their 20 overs, Australian skipper Aaron Finch asked the youngster to open the innings in the run-chase. The 23-year-old admitted that he was taken aback by the decision but credited his captain for ultimately calming his nerves.

Green, who was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’, said,

“Was thrown into the deep end (opening for the first time) but having Finchy helped and he calmed the nerves. Hardik played beautifully, it was pleasure to watch him. I have no idea, I'll leave it up to the coaches to think about that. (on opening the innings)”

When asked if he would like to continue as an opener in the future, the Western Australian star said that he will leave the decision up to the coaches.

Green also praised Pandya’s herculean knock, describing his 30-ball 71* as a pleasure to watch.

Australia will now face India in the second T20I of their three-match series on September 23.
