It's the right team for WC except for one player: Yuvraj Singh on India's T20 Squad

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday (September 20) opened up on the Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad heading into the T20 World Cup 2022 next month and stated that the entire squad, except for one player, deserved his spot but didn't name the player.  

The quintessential icon of India's World Cup win, Yuvraj Singh was present at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday (September 20) as the Punjab Cricket Association honoured him and Harbhajan Singh by naming stands at the Mohali Cricket Stadium after them. 

Speaking ahead of the opening T20I between India and Australia, the legendary left-handed batter opened up on the importance of the ongoing home series against Australia and South Africa, conceding: 

"They need to try their best playing combination against Australia and South Africa in the upcoming T20Is. They shouldn't just try 11 players, in fact, 15 players should be tried to get the right balance for the world cup. Spinners are going to be very important because of the bigger grounds in Australia."

Yuvraj Singh Want Team India to Learn from Their Mistakes

Further weighing in on the 15-member India squad for the T20 World Cup, starting October 16 next month in Australia, Yuvraj Singh said that the entire squad looks balanced, and everyone deserved a spot in the team except for one player.

"I think it's the right team for the world cup, except for one player, I won't take his name. Overall, I think it's the right side, but we need to experiment before the world cup so that we don't make too many changes which have been a concern with us in the past. I want to see at least 13 players in this squad to be set heading into the world cup."

The Punjab legend further cited the example of Team India's horrible exit in the 2007 World Cup and said that India's failure in Asia Cup 2022 could be a blessing in disguise for Rohit Sharma's men heading into the T20 World Cup as they can work on their mistakes and rectify them.  

"I think the loss in Asia Cup 2022 is good for them (in a way). They can now learn from their mistakes there. We exited the 2007 World Cup in West Indies in the first round and went on to win the T20 World Cup a few months later. So, I am expecting the same from this team as they failed in the Asia Cup." 

After hosting Australia, India will host South Africa in a three-match T20Is series, starting September 28 in Vizag. The series also includes 3 ODIs but the T20 WC-bound players will not take part in the 50-over fixtures as they will jet off to Australia for the WC preparations.
