The CSA 20 has got a great launching pad for themselves with a successful auction yesterday. The tournament followed the already tested method of fixing base prices for players and then putting them under the hammer for the franchises.

The six teams filled their squads as per their game plans for the tournament. A total of approximately R125 Million or INR 56 Cr was spent for 79 players of 7 different countries.

But players from which country were in more demand or which specialities were given more importance by the franchises. Let us take a deeper look at the numbers in the auction.

Countries

Players from seven different nationalities were bought by the franchises. Let us look at how much money was spent on players from each country.

As it is a home league of South Africa, much expectedly the most amount of money was spent on South African players and they were also the most sold players. But were they the most costly of the lot? A look into the average price of players of each nationality will give us a better idea.

As the figure suggests that as per average price the costliest were players from New Zealand, where the cheapest were players from Afghanistan.

Player Speciality

In this category we look into is the speciality of players the franchises spent more money on.

The table suggests that the batters were in high demand. Most number of players with batting ability were sold and also the highest amount was spent on them.

But who were more costly of the players, let us have a look.

So, though the franchises spent more money for the batters, it was the all-rounders who came more costly for them. But it is surprising to see that spinners have been costlier than pacers for a league that will be hosted in South Africa. The summary could be that the franchises have looked for players who can contribute to the team in more ways than one.

Bidding pattern of the franchises

Let us first take a look at which franchise spent the most amount of money during the auction.

The Pretoria Capitals were the most active franchise in the auction. They bought 15 players for INR 12.49 Cr. While the MI Cape Town was the franchise spending the least amount of money in the auction (INR 6.95 Cr).

The figure gives us the idea that Sunrisers Eastern Cape had paid the most amount per player. The fact that the highest paid player of the auction Tristan Stubbs is in their camp just adds to the analysis.

On the other hand MI Cape Town spent their money judicially and despite spending the least amount for each player in the auction has one of the most balanced squads of the competition.
