Five bargains from the SA20 auction

The much-awaited auction of the novel SA20 League was conducted on Monday (September 19) at Cape Town International Convention Centre. Many prominent local and overseas players were up for grabs for all six franchises. 

Each team had a squad limit of 17 players, with seven of them being overseas, and the remaining quota was reserved for South African players. 

Here are top five Bargain buys from SA20 Auction

1. Harry Brook

Brook has hogged the limelight due to his consistent performances across all three formats this year. He slammed 967 runs in the County Championship Division One for Yorkshire. The T20 Blast witnessed him scoring 436 runs in 11 innings at a prolific strike rate of 163.90. 

With the kind of talent the 23-year-old possesses, he was certainly the best buy for the Joburg Super Kings.

2. Johnson Charles

One of the key contributors for West Indies in the T20I World Cup 2012 and 2016 title victories, Charles was bought by Durban's Super Giants for his base price of R 425K. 

The 33-year-old is the top-scorer in the CPL 2022 with 342 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 135.12. Interestingly, he earned a place in the Caribbean squad for T20I WC 2022 as well.

3. Will Jacks

The Surrey top-order batter has been sensational in the 2022 domestic season. In the T20 Blast, Jacks mustered 449 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 142.08. 

In the Men's Hundred, the 23-year-old garnered 261 runs in seven innings for Oval Invincibles. He was bought by Pretoria Capitals for R 1.10M.

4. Kusal Mendis

The batter with a solid technique and adaptability, Mendis was sold for his base price of R 425K to Pretoria Capitals. In the Asia Cup 2022, the top-order batter garnered 155 runs in six innings for Sri Lanka. 

In 87 T20s, Mendis has 2306 runs at an average of 28.46, with 19 fifties.

5. James Fuller

A belligerent striker and a skilful seamer, Fuller has had a terrific 2022 domestic season with Hampshire. He garnered 270 runs and scalped 23 wickets in 17 games to help the team lift the T20 Blast title. 

In 137 T20s, the 32-year-old has 1382 runs and 129 wickets under his belt. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape bought him for his base price of 425K.
