Moeen Ali backs England's youngsters after 'second string side' claim

Moeen Ali will be leading England in Jos Buttler's absence in the series against Pakistan.

Jos Buttler became England's full time white ball captain following Eoin Morgan's retirement. However, he will be missing the upcoming series against Pakistan to manage his calf injury before the T20I World Cup in Australia from next year. Moeen Ali will be taking charge for the 7 match T20I series. 

While Liam Livingstone and Chris Jordan are recovering from injuries as well, Ben Stokes has been rested ahead of the T20 showpiece, set to be held in Australia. Opener Jason Roy missed out on both tours due to a dip in form while batter Jonny Bairstow and fast-bowler Jofra Archer are out due to injury too.

These absences have prompted the touring England side to be labelled as a "second string side". However, Moeen Ali has hit back at such claims, saying that he backs the youngsters in the English side. He believes England have selected the best possible side for the tour and that the key players missing out was due to unfortunate circumstances. 

He was full of praises for youngsters like Phil Salt, Harry brook , and Will Jacks who have done well in the recent times. He said:

"We still have a very good side. Throughout the summer we've had bad injuries but it gives good opportunities for new players to come in and there were always going to be new players coming into the squad because the cycle has changed.

"The team that we bring, I believe we are a very good white-ball team. White-ball players from England have been coming [to play in the Pakistan Super League]."
