Darren Stevens delighted to end Kent career with Royal London title victory

Darren Stevens, the legendary all-rounder expressed his excitement to bid farewell to his Kent career with a Royal London Cup title victory against Lancashire on Saturday (17 September). 

Batting first, Kent posted a total of 306 runs, with the top contribution of 97 from Joey Evison. Stevens remained unbeaten on 33 off 31, with two fours. 

In response, Lancashire bundled out for 285, with Grant Stewart and Nathan Gilchrist picking three wickets each for Kent. 

Earlier, the 46-year-old was denied a contract extension with the Kent team. It was also due to the fact of him missing most of the games this season due to a groin injury. 

Following a title win, Stevens felt delighted by winning two trophies in two years, with a T20 Blast victory in the last season. 

Furthermore, he also admitted that he would have loved to carry on playing for Kent in the coming seasons as well. So far, he has garnered more than 25,000 runs and over 800 wickets across three formats. 

"If that is the end, then what a way to bow out," said Stevens. 

"I was sorry to be off the field when we actually won at the end, but that's three trophies in my time here - and two of them in two years,"

"I'd love to have won more, but there's so many teams out there, which make it so hard, so this is a great feeling,"

"If that's the end, then fine. I'd love to stay on but that doesn't look like that's happening."
