Suryakumar Yadav has been a revelation for the Indian team. The highest-ranked Indian player in the ICC rankings for T20I batters, Suryakumar has played an instrumental role in India’s victories since his debut in March 2021. In 13 ODIs and 28 T20 Internationals, the batter has collected 340 and 811 runs at an average of 34 and 36.9 respectively.

With the T20I World Cup 2022 just a couple of weeks away, the right-hander is being considered India’s trump card. Suryakumar recently reflected on his batting techniques during the game. India’s Mr. 360 revealed that batting at number four helps him judge a bowler correctly while sitting in the dugout.

Suryakumar gives an insight into his preparation

Suryakumar is someone who goes in the middle with proper planning. Before the game, he prepares himself mentally and physically by watching old videos of the opposition bowlers.

In an interview with the Times of India, the 32-year-old mentioned,

“At the number which I bat, it allows me to watch all the bowlers and allows me to plan when I am sitting in the dugout. When I go inside, it's all about execution. I also watch the videos of the opposition bowlers a day before the game, and sleep over it and visualize how I am going to play.”

The batter reveals his favorite batting position

Further in the interaction, Suryakumar revealed his favorite batting position. The batter has scored most of the international runs at number four. However, there are certain members in the cricket fraternity who believe that promoting the flamboyant player up the order will prove more beneficial for his batting style.

Speaking about the same, the Ghazipur-born added that the number four is a perfect position as it allows him to play his natural game. Suryakumar likes batting the most between eight and 14th over as they are the most crucial overs for a batting side. The 32-year-old labeled the three-down place as a challenging position as he needs to save his wicket while playing big shots to set the base for death overs.

“I feel that No.4 is a good position for me. The situation that I go into bat allows me to control the game. I have enjoyed myself most when I bat between overs seven and 15. I try not to play too many risky shots. I try to play over cover and try to cut through point, run hard and keep the scoreboard ticking so that after the 15th over the finishers don't have issues finishing the game.”
