Melbourne Stars confirm BBL 12 to be David Hussey's last season as head coach

Ahead of the 2022-23 Big Bash League (BBL), the Melbourne Stars have confirmed that former Australian international David Hussey will be their head coach for the final time. Hussey's tenure as the Stars' head coach began in 2019, replacing New Zealand's Stephen Fleming.

Under Hussey, the stars finished runners-up in BBL | 09 while finishing seventh and sixth in the last two editions in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively.

The 45-year-old played all his BBL cricket for the Stars, appearing in 48 matches, scoring 855 runs, and claiming 12 wickets since the tournament's inception in 2011-12.

Stars GM Blair Crouch thanked Hussey for his services so far and wished for a fulfilling BBL | 12.​

"We'd like to congratulate David on his appointment as Head of Male Cricket at Cricket Victoria. As well as his huge legacy as a player, David has done an outstanding job as head coach of the Melbourne Stars and we've still got a lot we want to achieve this season with David and the team."

Earlier in the day, Hussey was named head of male cricket for Cricket Victoria. The former Kolkata Knight Riders mentor played all his cricket for Victoria, featuring in 192 First-Class and 260 List-A games.
