Aakash Chopra terms Yuzvendra Chahal as the lone wicket-taking spinner in India's T20 WC squad

On Monday, the BCCI selection committee announced India's 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

The selectors covered all spin bases this time, including veteran Ravichandran Ashwin and experienced Axar Patel alongside Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad.

However, former India opener Aakash Chopra has admitted to being dissatisfied with these selections. Analysing the squad on his YouTube channel, Chopra questioned the wicket-taking abilities of the two finger spinners, Ashwin and Axar.

Addressing Chahal as the lone attacking weapon among the spinners, Chopra revealed that he would have loved to see bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav or Ravi Bishnoi, who bowl on attacking lines, in the main squad.

"You have picked an offspinner, a legspinner and a left-arm spinner. So you have picked different-different options but Yuzi Chahal is the only legit wicket-taking option in T20 cricket. The others are defensive options. You can see the numbers for the last 12 months, IPL included for both of them,"

"Ravi Bishnoi was a tempting option available to you. You are not thinking about Kuldeep at all, which is slightly disappointing, but he could also have been a wicket-taking option."

Despite Ravi Bishnoi's exceptional bowling in the high-voltage Asia Cup fixture against Pakistan, the selectors picked him as a standby player for the World Cup, surprising the fans as well as experts. However, as the team has already been selected, it will be interesting to see whom India pairs with Chahal in the showpiece event.
