South African men's side head coach Mark Boucher be taking up the role of the head coach of the MI Cape Town in the SA20 league.

He had earlier announced that he will be quitting his post following the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup and will be leaving with one year left in his contract.

Reports suggest that there are several factors behind the former wicketkeeper batter's decision. The most prominent of them being the fact that he is becoming one of the most sought-after coaches for franchise T20 leagues all around the world.

The 45-year-old is expected to take over the role of the head coach of the MI Cape Town side in the SA20 league that is slated to take place in the early part of next year. The player auction for the league takes place on 19 September and Boucher will certainly have to play a role in deciding which players the franchise bids for.

CSA Director on Boucher's exit

CSA director of cricket Enoch Nkwe had high praise for Boucher who is one of the greatest wicketkeeper batters to have ever played the game.

He appreciated Boucher's efforts both during his days on and off the field while coaching the national side. Boucher holds the record for the most test dismissals with 555 dismissals in total.

Nkwe said:

"He is a Proteas legend and has done so much for the game in our country, both on the field and over the last three years off it, which we highly appreciate,

“He has built a sound platform for South Africa to flourish in all three formats and I’m sure we will see the results of that at the T20 World Cup next month.”
