Cricket West Indies (CWI) have announced a strong 17-member provisional West Indies Women's squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand at home. Hayley Matthews, who was appointed new captain after Stafanie Taylor in June, will lead an inexperienced side that is missing the likes of Anisa Mohammed, Kycia Knight, and Deandra Dottin.

Selectors have recalled hard-hitting wicketkeeper batter Natasha McLean and off-spinner Sheneta Grimmond to the squad.  19-year-old Jannillea Glasgow also received her maiden national call-up. CWI confirmed that a 13-woman squad will be picked ahead of each ODI.

The 3-match ODI series takes place between September 16 to 22 in Antigua.

Grimmond makes a comeback to the national setup after an impressive season with the title-winning Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the recently concluded first-ever Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). Glasgow, too, played for TKR in WCPL 2022.

In CWI statement, Ann Browne-John, lead selector for Women's Cricket emphasized the series' importance looking ahead to the Women's T20 World Cup next year.

"The New Zealand series is very important on the women's cricket landscape not only because it starts a new cycle, but also because it is part of the preparation leading towards the T20 World Cup in South Africa."
