Amy Jones is currently leading the England women’s team against India. Earlier, regular captain Heather Knight was ruled out of the series due to an injury while her deputy Nat Sciver made herself unavailable for a mental health break.

Despite the absence of England’s first-choice skippers, Jones led her side to an emphatic win over the ‘Women in Blue’ in the first T20I at Chester-le-Street.

Amy Jones opens up on captaincy role after easy win over India

Jones recently admitted that she found the idea of leading England as a “daunting” experience. However, she thanked her teammates for their support in her newfound role.

After the nine-wicket victory over India Women, she said:

“It’s just the unknown, that’s what I was stressing about: what can go wrong? It’s a lot of responsibility with a young side. I wasn’t sure if they’d need more help than they did. Everyone stepped up, knew their game, and it was a lot simpler than I thought.”

“I really felt everyone came together which was really pleasing. Now I can relax a bit more knowing we can get through a game, and the girls helping out made that so much easier.”

Jones will now lead her side in the second T20I of their three-match home series against India. The match is scheduled to be played at the County Cricket Ground in Derby on September 13. The series will conclude with the third match on September 15 in Bristol.

The T20Is will be followed by a three-match ODI series between the two sides, with matches taking place between September 18 and September 24.
